4. The Natural Resources of the Lower Murrumbidgee

The Lower Murrumbidgee extends from a point roughly 35 km west of Wagga Wagga to the junction between the Murrumbidgee and Murray Rivers west of Balranald. It is bounded to the north by the Lachlan Catchment, to the south by the Murray Catchment, and to the west by the Lower Murray-Darling. It occupies an area roughly 30,000 square kilometres in size.

Much of the following has been adapted from section 8.0 of the Murrumbidgee Catchment Action Plan (1998). According to the Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority (CMA), the CAP is designed to “provide strategic direction for investment in natural resource management for the Murrumbidgee catchment”. This section expands on the information provided in the earlier document. Where newer sources are used, these are indicated.
