4.2. Bioregions

The bulk of the Lower Murrumbidgee occurs in the Riverina bioregion, but a small area west of Balranald overlaps the Murray-Darling Depression bioregion and the eastern part of the catchment takes in part of the Cobar Peneplain and the NSW South Western Slopes. The Riverina, Cobar Peneplain and NSW South Western Slopes bioregions are considered to be underrepresented in the National Reserve System.
