4.1. Climate

In common with the Mid Murrumbidgee, the Lower Murrumbidgee features a Mediterranean climate with warm to hot summers and cool winters. Mean annual rainfall increases from west to east, with Balranald averaging 324.6 mm (BOM, n.d. (a)) and Narrandera averaging 439.8 mm (BOM, n.d. (b)). Rainfall peaks slightly in winter and spring. Severe thunderstorm activity occurs in summer, but these storms are usually fleeting.
