About

The Tarcutta Valley Landcare Group (TVLG) have a small but very keen core group of members. They are involved in a range of activities, and are constantly coming up with new ideas and projects to tackle.

Some past and present activities include:

  • Cross-property planning project: Some members of the group (those with Box Gum Grassy Woodlands, located around Humula) have been involved in the Communities in Landscapes project, which was very successful. Through the new ‘Cross-property Planning in the Central Murrumbidgee’ project, we hope to be able to continue with these landholders, and also offer the opportunity for involvement to others within the TVLG
  • Qantas Erosion Control project: TVLG are one of the two groups (together with Kyeamba Valley Landcare Group) involved in this project.

»  History of land use reconstructed for hydrologic modelling of the Tarcutta Creek catchment. By Aleksandra Rančić, David Read, Brendan Christy, Terry McLean, Iain Hume, Gregory Summerell.

  • Tarcutta Rec Grounds repair following serious flood damage. Murrumbidgee CMA Community Partnerships funding enabled the group to put in new fences and remove debris. Subsequent work included weed removal, ground preparation and the planting of 2000 tree and shrub seedlings (August 2012).
  •  Black willow and blackberry control. This project was funded through a large Caring For Our Country grant, and involved spraying and removal of blackberries and black willows along the creek. The work was carried out by the Green Team (Wagga City Council).
  • Tarcutta Creek Land and Water Management Plan originally released in 2002. The group has plans to update this document.
  • Flood Mitigation works.

Vision

Meetings are generally held on the third Tuesday of every month, from 7.30 pm, at the Tarcutta RSL. However this is not set in stone and it is worth checking with one of the contacts. The odd meeting is also held in Humula.
