A Journey Along the Centenary Trail – Past, Present and Future
In this special year celebrating the Centenary of Canberra the Molonglo Catchment Group (MCG) and the Artists Society of Canberra (ASOC) have joined forces with the two other catchment groups in the area, the Southern ACT Catchment Group, and the Ginninderra Catchment Group to put on a more extensive Art exhibition and a competition that incorporates the work of artists who are members of, or are affiliated with the catchment groups.
Entry conditions will be similar for both ASOC members and non-members who submit work through the catchment sponsors.
Prizes up to a value exceeding $3000 will be available to the winning entrants, including the Molonglo Art Prize.
Importantly, we have also decided to open up the event to include art works from year 10-12 students from all the schools/colleges within the catchments. Student entries must be submitted through their schools, and they will be judged separately from the affiliate and member-entries for a series of special prizes for students.
Namely:
First prize: a $650 art scholarship for the ASOC 2014 Summer Art Experience.
Second Prize: $400 from the Ginninderra Catchment Group.
Third Prize: $300 from the Southern ACT Catchment Group
The nominated theme for 2013 resonates with the Centenary and Heritage celebrations planned for Canberra in 2013. We have adopted the Centenary Trail in the theme: “A Journey Along the Centenary Trail - Past, Present and Future”.
Artists are invited to portray their interpretation of the environment and its sustainability along the trail as it winds through all the local catchment areas.
They should reflect on the changes over time by highlighting, in particular, the landscape, people, flora and fauna in the catchments. See: www.tams.act.gov.au - search ‘Centenary Trail’ and see Maps.
The 2013 Exhibition and Competition will be held over the last week of the Canberra Heritage Festival, April 21st to 28th, 2013 at a new venue for us: The Gallery, Canberra Grammar School. So get your brushes and easels out to prepare for a date of entry in early April 2013.
A highly distinguished world expert on water and the environment, the Chief Scientist of South Australia, Professor Don Bursill, is scheduled to open the Exhibition.
