Farmers and other agvet chemical users across New South Wales have another opportunity to dispose of their unwanted chemicals as ChemClear schedules a State collection commencing in October.

This year’s run will be NSW’s 6th state collection since the program kicked off in 2003.  Since then more than 130 tonne of waste chemical has been collected in NSW for safe disposal, and a total of 527 tonne nationally through the stewardship program.

Over 100 chemical users have already registered for this collection with interest received from farms, golf courses, schools, bowling greens, chemical distributors, and turf, and pest managers.  Based on  this excellent early response ChemClear is anticipating this year’s collection to be one of its biggest yet. To be included in the October collection people must take an inventory of unwanted stock and register with the program on or before close of business 2nd September.

ChemClear’s National Manager Lisa Nixon said the program helps chemical users make good purchasing, storing and disposal decisions with their agvet chemicals. “Before this stewardship program kicked off farmers and other chemical users across Australia had very limited opportunities to dispose of their unwanted, unstable, inherited or unknown chemicals,” she said.

“The containers continued to sit and gather dust in chemical sheds across Australia. Simply storing the chemicals isn’t a long term viable solution, especially for those farmers and businesses who are audited against quality management systems, certifications or workplace safety programs.”

ChemClear classifies chemicals as either Group 1 or Group 2. Group 1 chemicals are collected free of charge under a levy paid on these products at point of sale. Group 1 chemicals are identified by a  drumMUSTER logo indicating program eligibility.  Click here to see the logo

Over 120 manufacturers of agvet chemical are voluntary members of the program, as part of their corporate responsibility programs. Group 2 chemicals do not display the logo and may include unlabelled, out of date, deregistered or mixed chemicals. Collection of Group 2 products attracts a fee per litre charge for disposal.

To register for the NSW OCTOBER collection, please take an inventory of your product and call 1800 008 182 or visit www.chemclear.com.au.

It is recommended that this be done as soon as possible as registrations close on 2nd September 2016.
