Riverina farmers, land managers and community groups will benefit from an injection of $2.8 million in grants and incentives from the 2016/17 Riverina Local Land Services Funding Program.

The funding program was launched on Wednesday 27 July by the General Manager of Riverina Local Land Services, Rob Kelly, who introduced over 30 projects that address productive farming, sustainable landscapes and community grants.

There is $1.2 million available for 14 projects under the “Productive Farms” banner; $1.5 million available for projects that address “Sustainable landscapes” and $200,000 for community grants.

Projects and activities vary to meet the needs of different farming systems, but cover a wide range of opportunities, such as:

  •  Construction of stock management areas, to protect groundcover on the rest of the farm;
  •  Fencing to protect remnant native vegetation;
  •  Fencing and planting new corridors of native trees and shrubs;
  •  Fencing to subdivide paddocks to land capabilities;
  •  Soil testing and training to increase the adoption of sustainable land management practices;
  •  Wetland and waterway restoration in the Mid-Murrumbidgee River area;
  •  Innovation for Irrigation grants;
  •  Riverine Rangelands paddock restoration;
  •  Sandhills Pine woodland restoration.
