Australian Government community information session regarding the new National Landcare Programme.

The National Landcare Programme is the Australian Government’s key natural resource management initiative. The programme will reinvigorate community engagement in the natural resource management sector by giving community groups, including landcare, a greater role in setting local and regional priorities that address environmental and sustainable agriculture issues.

The National Landcare Programme will have a national stream and a regional stream.

  • The national stream will deliver key election commitments including: the 20 Million Trees Programme; Coastal River Recovery Initiatives; the Cumberland Conservation Corridor; Whale and Dolphin Protection Plan; the Kimberley Cane Toads Clean Up; Biosecurity Incursion Management; the Dandenong Ranges Programme; and a small grants round.
  • The regional stream will be delivered through 56 regional NRM organisations across the country and will have a strong focus on community engagement, including landcare, in setting priorities and delivering projects.

The focus of the community information sessions is to provide the natural resource management community, including Landcare, with an update on the design and delivery of the National Landcare Programme and its different elements. The sessions will be held around the country from 4–15 August 2014.

An online consultation survey will also open on 4 August 2014 which will seek input on specific aspects of the design of the regional stream of the Programme. This is the primary platform for the natural resource management community to share their views through response to the survey questions. The survey will be open from 4 August until 29 August 2014 and you will be able to access it during this time via www.nrm.gov.au.
Attached to this invitation is a table detailing the locations, venues and times for each of the community information sessions. If you would like to attend one of these sessions please email your RSVP to nationallandcare@environment.gov.au by no later than 31 July 2014, indicating which session you would like to attend.
