The charismatic and knowledgeable US farmer, soil health expert and author Gary Zimmer will be in Australia next week to present at the Biological Farmers of Australia’s (BFA) annual roadshow on how to farm more productively and profitably.

Starting 25 years ago as a farmer and dairy nutritionist, Gary discovered his passion for healthy soils and more natural ways to produce healthy crops. Today, is known as the ‘father of biological farming’, has authored two books and travels the world sharing his knowledge on biological farming systems.

In my 25 or so years as a farmer and consulting to other farmers, I’ve seen that livestock that live on much higher levels of a natural diet can last up to twice as long said Gary.

Now I’m not saying it’s easy to transition to a biological farming system but you’re rewarded really well, can get healthier, disease-free crops and a lot less costs going off the farm.

There’s a common assumption in farming that if you produce more, you’ll make more. This is not always the case and raising stock such as cattle on a more natural system can also be more profitable he said.
