Federal Government Volunteer Grants
On Friday 14 August 2009, the Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the Hon Jenny Macklin MP, and the Parliamentary Secretary for Social Inclusion and the Voluntary Sector, Senator the Hon Ursula Stephens, announced the opening of Volunteer Grants 2009.
Volunteer Grants recognise the valuable contribution of Australia's volunteers and are part of the Government's ongoing commitment to supporting volunteers and building an inclusive Australia by encouraging community participation. Funding of between $1,000 and $5,000 is available to eligible non profit organisations to purchase practical small equipment items to help their existing volunteers and to encourage more people to become volunteers.
Funding is also available to contribute to the reimbursement of volunteers fuel costs, incurred when carrying out their volunteering activities. This will assist volunteers in their important work, including those who use their cars to transport others to appointments, deliver food and otherwise assist people in need.
Information about Volunteer Grants 2009, including the application form and application guidelines, is available from the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs website at www.fahcsia.gov.au or by calling the toll-free Hotline on 1800 183 374. Applications can be made online. Alternatively, a paper form can be requested.
The application guidelines provide essential information about Volunteer Grants 2009 and helpful instructions to assist organisations to complete an application. Please read this document carefully to ensure your organisation and the requested equipment items are eligible to be funded.
Applications close at 5pm AEST Friday, 25 September 2009.
I encourage your organisation to apply.
Kind regards
