Online database - Species Profiles and Threats

Printer-friendly version
Each month, there are more than 50,000 visits to the Australian Government's Species Profiles and Threats Database (SPRAT) websites. SPRAT profiles provide information on threatened and migratory species and threatened ecological communities listed under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act.

Users can search by species or community names, both scientific and common. The database provides information on what the species looks like, its population and distribution, habitat, movements, feeding, reproduction and taxonomic comments. The information has been compiled by summarising information from a range of sources and contributors.

Recently, there have been improvements to the species maps provided by SPRAT profiles. The maps are now at a much higher definition to better help decision makers and proponents determine where species are likely to occur. This improvement complements other spatial tools provided by the Department..
