Rural Australia without petroleum?

CSU's Institute for Land, Water and Society and the E.H Graham Centre for Agricultural Innovation will host a public forum on:

"The implications of diminishing international supplies of petroleum and the possibilities for biofuels industries in rural Australia."

Speakers include:

  • Professor Peter Sinclair, environmental sociologist and oil industry analyst, Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada
  • Dr Barrie May, biofuel researcher from CSIRO and author of "Biofuels in Australia: Issues and Prospects"

The forum will ask questions including:

  • How can rural communities adapt to increasing fuel costs and the potential for biofuel production?
  • How will a biofuel industry affect investment, employment and the growth/decline of rural communities?
  • Will transportation have to change and if so, in what ways?
