Central West Native Grass ID Guide launched
Landholders can now better identify and manage native grasses on their land with the release of the Local Land Services publication Common native grasses of central west NSW.
The guide gives management information on the common native species across the central west NSW slopes, plains and tablelands.
The publication is the result of collaboration between the Central West and Central Tablelands Local Land Services regions and native grass experts from the Department of Primary Industries.
The guide will help graziers better recognise the value of native grasses within grazing systems and the natural environment, according to Local Land Services Pastures Officer Clare Edwards.
"Native grasses, especially perennial species, form an important component of pastures, native grasslands and woodland and forest understories," said Ms Edwards.
"They are a valuable grazing resource and component of biodiversity in the region, as well as providing food and habitat for native animals.
The publication profiles 33 common native grasses, each with notes on its recognition, distribution, forage quality and management.
