Landcare Opportunities Update #4 April 2015

Printer-friendly version

MLiThis update is to let you know of a number of opportunities for Landcarers for April/May 2015.

20 Million Trees - For Landholders

The 20 Million Trees Program is part of the Federal Government’s National Landcare Program which aims to establish 20 million trees by 2020. CO2 Australia has been successful in obtaining funding under this CO2 Australiaprogram and is looking to establish 200 hectares of new environmental plantings within the Murrumbidgee Catchment. CO2 Australia is working in partnership with Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc. to establish these plantings and would like to connect with landholders who may be interested in having tree plantings established on their land.

The plantings would be a variety of local trees comprised of both over- and under-storey species. Plantings will be established using a mixture of nursery grown tube-stock and direct seeding to provide the best results and where available local provenance seed will be used. Whole paddocks, shelter belts and creek lines would all be suitable under this progrNLPam.

There is enough government funding to cover all of the costs of establishing and managing the plantings during their first few years, so if you are interested in putting trees on your property, this is a way to have the work done for free.

There is also opportunity for landholders to be involved in revegetation workshops and community education days that will be run as part of this program. We would welcome input from landholders concerning relevant topics.

Expressions of interest are sought from:

  • Individual landholders who are interested in revegetating +5ha and
  • Groups of landholders who can create larger areas of revegetation

If you are interested in being involved in this venture, please contact Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc. by email to office@mli.org.au or by telephoning Ms Karen Jamieson on (02)6933 1443.  To comply with government requirements, it is essential that expressions of interest are received by not later than Friday 1 May 2015.
