Sustaining Landcare campaign - ACT NOW!

Murrumbidgee Landcare is supporting the Landcare NSW Sustaining Landcare campaign. We encourage all Landcarers in the 'bidgee to act now.

Landcarers across NSW have been working hard on our Sustaining Landcare campaign of the last three months. And now, we are getting reports that our message is being heard by Ministers and Shadow-Ministers. Landcare’s issues are being listened to. However, with five weeks out to the election we have not heard any policy announcements for Landcare.

The Issue

The core funding that supports our volunteer movement has gradually been withdrawn. As volunteers we cannot continue to provide our valuable service on behalf of the community without support. Landcare cannot take full advantage of grants to run local projects if we do not have the infrastructure to support the volunteer movement.

Many Landcare groups are facing serious viability issues. Without intervention, the risk of losing staff, volunteers and momentum increases. Sustaining Landcare is an appeal to keep alive the 25 year partnership between Landcare and the State Government. We need a coordinated, properly funded Landcare Support Program for NSW. This program includes a network of local Landcare Support Staff.

What can you do?

Contact your local member of parliament. Everybody is in election mode. Now is the time to act.

Landcare NSW has developed a Landcare Support Program which includes a proposal for funding to re-employ local Landcare staff. Get in touch with the Murrumbidgee Landcare office for more information about the program.
