Rivers of Carbon: Yass River Linkages
The Australian River Restoration Centre (ARRC), Greening Australia (GA) and Yass Area Network of Landcare Groups (YAN) have been successful in obtaining a grant through the NSW Environmental Trust to undertake riparian rehabilitation in the Yass Catchment – “Rivers of Carbon, Yass River Linkages”. It is part of the broader Rivers of Carbon project.
The aim of the project is to improve water quality and biodiversity in the Yass catchment, with a focus on connecting existing (past) project sites, or good quality stretches of river.
We are looking for landholders along the Yass River – particularly along the Yass River Rd area - who are interested in undertaking riparian rehabilitation works, i.e. fencing the river from stock (which may or may not require alternative water), and undertaking revegetation with native trees, shrubs and grasses. Incentives are available for fencing materials (up to $4000 / km), alternative water (up to $5000 / km of stream), tubestock, direct seeding and limited willow control. Landholders will be responsible for erection of fencing, installation of water, site preparation (spraying and / or ripping as appropriate), planting and maintenance. [Note that assistance for planting is also available].
Although priority will be given to landholders along Yass River Rd, consideration will still be given to landholders outside the focus area (as funds allow).
