Volunteers Needed - Koala Survey

Help monitor and protect koalas in Mundoonen Nature Reserve

 
The NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service (NPWS) is currently seeking volunteers to take part in a new koala survey program to monitor the koala population in Mundoonen Nature Reserve.
 
A small population of koalas has been identified in Mundoonen Nature Reserve however little is known about their current density and distribution. These surveys will help NPWS better manage activities such as pest control programs and prescribed burns to minimise impacts on koalas.
 
Volunteers will have the opportunity to:
·         Be trained in survey techniques including scat and vegetation identification
·         Explore their local parks with like-minded people
·         Contribute to the management of an iconic threatened species
Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 and available for one weekend day every two months. Volunteers should be fit and healthy as surveys may involve long days walking over difficult terrain to access survey sites.
