2.6. Native Fauna

The Upper Murrumbidgee is home to a great diversity of native mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish, and insects. The ACT alone is home to more than 200 bird species, including the iconic superb lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae) and a large number of parrots, honeyeaters, waterbirds, raptors, and so on.

A number of threatened animal species occur in the Upper Murrumbidgee. A full list of endangered species for the Murrumbidgee Catchment (Upper, Mid and Lower) is given under Schedule 4 of the Catchment Action Plan for 2008. The following species are all listed as either vulnerable (V) or endangered (E) in the ACT.
