Salary/Conditions: 37.5 hours per week @ $68,000 - $74,000 per-annum (determined by qualifications and experience). 1 year maternity leave replacement contract (mid-June 2012 – June 2013)
The Regional Landcare Facilitator (RLF) Initiative is an Australian Government Caring for our Country program designed to support community Landcare and production groups in the uptake of sustainable agricultural practices. Whilst the focus is on sustainable agriculture, the RLF will also be supporting groups working on off-farm environmental, conservation and ecosystem services projects.
The Regional Landcare Facilitator will:
- promote sustainable agriculture and contribute to the uptake of sustainable farming practices in a changing climate, including establishing information networks and brokering projects to deliver these outcomes
- establish, link, support and develop community Landcare and production groups that participate in sustainable farming practices and off-farm conservation and environmental projects
- promote opportunities for groups and networks to access public and private funds to address public benefit sustainable practice initiatives and improving natural resource management (NRM)
- Liaise in the field with other relevant agencies and stakeholders
- provide feedback to the Australian Government on emerging issues and current attitudes and activities in the region relevant to sustainable agricultural practices and the needs of community Landcare and production based networks.
Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc (MLi) is a not-for-profit, community organisation which has been representing community Landcare in the Murrumbidgee catchment for over 15 years. MLi works to support community Landcare Networks; promote community Landcare and broker strategic alliances to improve community knowledge and adoption of sustainable agricultural and environmental practices.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- Tertiary qualification or equivalent in NRM, Agriculture or Environmental Science
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with community, Landcare and production groups to promote, develop and support sustainable farm and land management practices.
- Appreciation of issues facing land managers in primary production
- Ability to work independently and take initiative whilst also being able to work as a member of a team
- Demonstrated high level written and oral communication, facilitation, interpersonal, negotiation and computer skills and the ability and willingness to work cooperatively with diverse stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated ability to provide an effective interface between regional NRM bodies, community, Landcare, primary production and other stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated ability to promote opportunities for groups and networks to access public and private funds to address sustainable farm and land management practices that provide both private and public benefits.
- Demonstrated ability in project management, including: work plan development & prioritisation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting against work plan and project outcomes.
- Willingness and ability to participate in State and National meetings and events as required.
- Current drivers licence and flexibility to travel regularly within the region, including evening meetings.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the agencies and organisations in the region with catchment and land management interests
