Riverina Highlands Landcare Network has again joined forces with Snowy Valleys Council to assist local residents to take part in National Tree Day week, Australia's biggest community tree-planting and nature-care event.
From Monday the 23rd of July to Friday the 27th of July local residents can visit the Landcare Nursery in Tumut and collect a free native tree, shrub or understorey plant. Community groups and local schools will also benefit with a box of free plants and guards available for planting at community sites and school grounds.
A variety of native plants will be available - from small flowering shrubs for the gardener through to large trees for farmers, and all plants are suited to our local climate. Residents are encouraged to come down to the Landcare Nursery early during the week to have first pick at the plants on offer!
The Landcare Nursery is located on Gocup Road (opposite Snowy Works and Services).
Residents will also be given a copy of the “Your Guide to Creating a Native Garden in the Riverina Highlands” to help them make better decisions about what to plant and where.
Last year nearly 310,000 people took part in National Tree Day at over 3,500 sites across the country, planting more than 1.1 million native trees, shrubs and edibles and helping to green urban areas.
