Screening of ‘Food Evolution’ and GM panel discussion - Wagga
Primary tabs
The Graham Centre are hosting a free screening of the documentary "Food Evolution", which aims to rebalance the GM debate.
Following the screening, Graham Centre member Professor Jim Pratley will chair a Q & A Panel. Panel members Dr Carl Ramage (Rautaki Solutions), Dr James Petrie (CSIRO) and Mr Mark Swift (Nuffield Scholar and farmer) will address questions from the floor, sharing their expert knowledge, promoting awareness and discussion of the use of GMO’s in our farming systems.
Supper will also be provided.
In the GM debate, both pro and anti-camps claim science is on their side, but who is right? Food Evolution shows how easily misinformation, confusion and fear can overwhelm objective analysis.
How do we ensure that our food supply is safe, and that everyone has enough to eat?
How do we feed the world while also protecting the planet?
Has genetic engineering increased or decreased pesticide use?
Are GM foods bad for your health?
And, most importantly, what data, evidence and sources are we using to approach these important questions?
Traveling from Hawaiian papaya groves, to banana farms in Uganda, to the cornfields of Iowa, Food Evolution wrestles with the emotions and the evidence driving one of the most heated arguments of our time.
The film is produced by Academy Award-nominated director Scott Hamilton Kennedy and runs for 92 minutes.
