Phosphorus Management Workshops

Printer-friendly version
Date:
16 Mar 2016 - 1:00pm
23 Mar 2016 - 1:00pm

Phosphorous (P) is a key nutrient that drives pasture and livestock production with the main objective being to lift or maintain stocking rate and to consequently improve profit per hectare.

South East Local Land Services, in conjunction with NSW DPI are holding a FREE workshop that focuses on assisting producers in determining suitable levels for P fertilisation of their pastures and the associated economics of investing in the fertiliser.

Presented as 2 x half day sessions, the workshop will be held at the Boorowa Ex-Services Club on:
Session 1: Wed, 16 March 2016, 1 pm – 5 pm and
Session 2: Wed, 23 March 2016, 1 pm - 5 pm

In order to realise the full benefit of the course you will need to attend both sessions and have taken 1 or more soil tests from your property within the last couple of years. Ideally the soil test results will need to include a measurement for Phosphorus (Colwell) as well as Phosphorus Buffer Index (PBI) for the paddock(s)/ area(s) in question. It will also be important to have a reading for Sulphur.

If you have not taken a recent soil test then it would be preferable to defer attending one of the upcoming courses and take a soil test when soil conditions are moist in spring. Please refer to the pdf file attached here on how to take an accurate soil test. South East LLS will run further  'Phosphorous Management Workshops' in the near future.

We are currently organising for our smaller South East LLS offices to have soil testing kits (testing through NSW DPI Soil Testing Laboratory) and corers available for you to borrow if required.

If you have any further questions, read the full flier attached and please do not hesitate to call either Fiona Leech (M:0427-201 805) or Matthew Lieschke (M:0428-271 127) at South East Local Land Services.
