Clean Up Australia Day - Coolamon
Primary tabs
Date:
6 Mar 2016 - 8:00am
Coolamon Landcare Group Inc and supporters will be participating in Clean Up Australia Day in the Kindra State Forest Ext 1 on Sunday morning 6 March starting at the main forest gates Lewis Street at 8am.
Members and volunteers are most cordially invited to attend with the main focus on the collection of glass over a wide area at The Circle at the northern end of the forest towards Campbells Lane. This is of particular concern because there are now bike tracks passing through this area where there is a mountainous quantity of small glass segments as well as more hazardous broken bottles.
All volunteers are required to register at the gates on the day and to wear protective clothing especially covered shoes, hats, and gloves and don't forget the sun block. Water will be available as will as bags but bring your own if you wish. Litter pick up has been organised as well as first aid and notification of all emergency services and police. A helicopter and emergency evacuation site will be clearly indicated, This is a normal Forestry Corporation requirement for events within a forest area.. Qualified First Aid, transport and communication , signage and insurance are also required and.In the event of fire an ongoing horn will indicate that all personnel are to leave the forest precincts immediately by the nearest exit and to report to the designated evacuation site.Gates, stiles and exits will be clearly marked on a map to be distributed. Two way radio contact has been organised.
It is suggested by Landcare that volunteers participate with a friend or group with mobile phone contct and remain on the forest fire trail for the protection of the understory plants which are particularly brittle at this time of the year, also out of respect for the many Aboriginal items which have been identified and for obvious safety reasons.
Morning tea and light refreshments will be available from 10am at the main gates. A fun morning with a purpose is anticpated.
