Fungi: An Introduction to a Curious Kingdom

This workshop introduces participants to the diversity, ecology and curiosities of the fungi kingdom.

It will include an interactive and illustrated seminar on the major fungal groups, the basics of fungus identification and fungal ecology. Fungal specimens from the local area will be displayed, discussed and examined during the workshop. The importance of soil health on farms and fungal conservation will also be discussed.
Following the indoor session we will make an exciting foray through various local habitat types to search for species of interest. Supplementary notes will be provided.
The workshop is presented by research ecologist and fungal enthusiast Alison Pouilot.
Come and enjoy this event where you will hear how agricultural fungi protect crops, native fungi that are critical for wildlife and plant habitat, and learn the difference between edible and poisonous mushrooms.
