The following message is from Griffith City Council:
We would love you to join us for National Tree Day on Sunday 28 July from 10-12 at Griffith City Park, Food Forest.
Planting and weeding will be undertaken between 10am-12noon with a Free BBQ to be provided afterwards.
The Food Forest was established last year at the western end of City Park. It was developed in consultation with the Department of Primary Industries and Murrumbidgee Irrigation, and sponsored by ‘Community Heart – Griffith’. Fruit and nut trees, indigenous bush tucker and a raised herb garden were planted in the Food Forest.
All plants in the Food Forest are able to be harvested by the general community, with the intention that no person takes a whole crop, but rather just enough for their needs. In this way, many people can benefit directly from the harvest, and also learn about this type of gardening through experience.
This year, Planet Arc Tree Day will take place at the site to further enhance the area.
There is no need for individuals to RSVP for tree day, however if a large group are able to participate or you know you are coming, it would be helpful for planning and catering if you could notify Jo Tarbit in advance (contact details in the flier).
It will also be helpful if you bring your own tools, though we will have some available on the day to use.
