Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc (MLi) seeks to employ a Landcare Support Officer. The position is based in Wagga Wagga, with flexible hours to 22.5 hours per week up to the 31st December 2013.
MLi is a not-for-profit, community organisation which has been representing community Landcare in the Murrumbidgee catchment for over 15 years. MLi works to support community Landcare Networks; promote community Landcare and broker strategic alliances to improve community knowledge and adoption of sustainable agricultural and environmental practices.
The Landcare Support Officer (LSO) will:
- Provide support to the groups to undertake activities and communication strategies to increase landholder participation in Landcare and knowledge of NRM issues.
- Support and link community Landcare, Indigenous and production groups to participate in sustainable farming practices and off-farm conservation and environmental projects.
- Promote opportunities for groups and networks to access public and private funds to address public benefit sustainable practice initiatives and improving natural resource management (NRM).
- Liaise in the field with other relevant agencies and stakeholders.
- Report and advise on future opportunities and directions for Landcare.
SELECTION CRITERIA
- A tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in NRM, Agriculture, Environmental Science or Marketing.
- Knowledge of the agencies and organisations in the region with catchment and land management interests.
- Appreciation of issues facing land managers in rural and regional areas.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative whilst also being able to work as a member of a team
- Demonstrated high level written and oral communication, facilitation, interpersonal, negotiation and computer skills and the ability and willingness to work cooperatively with diverse stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated ability to provide an effective interface between regional NRM bodies, community, Landcare, primary production and other stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated ability to promote opportunities for groups and networks to access public and private funds to address sustainable farm and land management practices that provide both private and public benefits.
- Demonstrated ability in project management, including: work plan development & prioritisation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting against work plan and project outcomes.
- Willingness and ability to participate in State or National meetings and events as required.
- Current driver’s license and flexibility to travel regularly within the region, including evening meetings.
Desirable
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with community, Landcare and production groups to promote, develop and support sustainable farm and land management practices is desirable
The position is based in Wagga Wagga for approx. 22.5 hours per week. The project is to be completed by 31 December 2013. A total Salary Package equivalent to $33,200 (incl. super) will be negotiated. Working hours are flexible but the successful applicant will need to be willing to travel throughout the Murrumbidgee catchment including attending night meetings.
