9.1.2.Under threat
Historically, habitat clearance, intensive grazing and modified pastures have resulted in the decline of many plant species that are now listed as threatened. A sample list and photos of some threatened plants in the Mid-Murrumbidgee Catchment can be found in the appendices. Information about threatened flora and fauna species in NSW is available at www.environment.nsw.gov.au/threatenedspecies/.
Several plant communities are listed as endangered ecological communities under various Commonwealth, State or Territory Acts. The one most commonly found in the Mid-Murrumbidgee Catchment area is the Box Gum Grassy Woodlands, also known under NSW legislation as White Box, Yellow Box, Blakely’s Red Gum Woodland. This is a vegetation community found in low-lying situations or slopes, characterised by particular tree species and often with a grassy ground layer, that, like native grasslands, also have a diversity of forbs.
