EverGraze, Making More from Sheep and the Department of Primary Industries are hosting a free national phone seminar titled ‘Maximise your lamb survival’ on Friday 11th May from 12.00 to 1.00 pm. The seminar will cover key practices to maximise the number of lambs you sell this year. Scientists, including Susan Robertson from Wagga, will present data on the most common causes of lamb losses and key strategies for improving lamb survival.
Topics to be convered will include:
- Feed and nutrition management for pregnant and lambing ewes
- Appropriate mob sizes to minimise mis-mothering
- Management of ewes and lambs to minimise losses from disease
- Selection of rams for achieving target birth weights, and
- Providing shelter to minimise losses from exposure.
The latest results from EverGraze lamb survival research will be presented at the seminar. This information is also discussed in the recently released "EverGraze Exchange - Improving the Survival of Lambs".
