The next innovation in Australia’s sustainable agriculture could be just around the corner, with Landcare Australia opening applications for $1 million worth of grants under the Woolworths Sustainable Farming Program to support new projects and ideas.

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Tony Burke said he hoped that the funding would deliver innovation and tactical applications for Australian farmers.

"Landcare has always been about partnerships. These grants continue the partnership between Woolworths and local Landcare groups, which has been improving the Australian landscape for years."

More than $5 million of Woolworths project funding is resulting in a significant impact on farming group innovation according to Dr Shane Norrish, Partnerships Director with Landcare Australia.

“The Woolworths Sustainable Farming Program - a collaboration between Landcare Australia and Woolworths ‘Backing our Farmers’ campaign - has seen almost one hundred on-ground landcare projects right across Australia funded,” said Dr Norrish.

“The funding is supporting a huge range of trials and techniques. In many cases, these grants give farmers the chance to carry out highly innovative projects that would have been otherwise impossible.
