Responsible Investment: A Focus on Carbon Finance
Over the past five years there have been a number of finance sector initiatives integrating social and environmental risks and opportunities into lending and investment decision-making processes. These include the establishment of the Equator Principles by banking institutions and the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment established by institutional investors. These initiatives provide a framework for assessing lending and investment risks, and reframing the fiduciary duties of institutional investors and fund managers, with respect to the most pressing environmental issue – global climate change.
