Profiting from Dung Beetles - Riverina Highlands Landcare Network meeting

Printer-friendly version

Riverina Highlands Landcare Network

Venue: Adelong S&C Club
Date: 26th March
Time: starting at 7.30pm with light refreshments provided.

Every day over 500,000 tonnes of cattle dung is dropped onto Australian pastures. Left on the surface, dung can destroy pasture, act as a breeding ground for parasites and reduce production.

John Feehan, a pioneer in the introduction of Dung Beetles in Australia will be discussing the benefits of Dung Beetles to agriculture at the next Riverina Highlands Landcare Network meeting.

For over 30 years John was a member of the CSIRO team which introduced bovine Dung Beetles into Australia. When the CSIRO project was concluded, John formed a private company, Soilcam to continue the work of researching, collecting and releasing suitable Dung Beetles species into grazing regions across Australia.

A representative of Fort Dodge Australia will also be present to address any questions on parasite control for cattle.

All interested persons are invited to attend the meeting.
