20 Million Trees Program (Expressions of Interest close Friday 23 January 2015) CO2 Australia has approached Murrumbidgee Landcare seeking land holders interested in establishing plantings as part of the Australian Governments 20 Million Trees program. The program aims to re-establish green corridors and urban forests for environmental benefits such as conservation, carbon reduction & greenhouse gas emissions. CO2 will manage the project and take responsibility for sourcing plants, site preparation and all planting, including direct seeding where appropriate. Please note:
- Areas of 10ha minimum (less if planted in association with adjoining landholders)
- Fencing costs not included in the proejct
- No grazing in the stand for approximately 3 years
- Plantings to be maintained as permanent native vegetation.
Native Seed Collection Workshops (Expressions of Interest Close Friday 6 February 2015) The Australian Network for Plant Conservation, in conjunction with MLi, are proposing to run a number of native vegetation workshops across the Murrumbidgee/Riverina and Murray regions in 2015. The workshops will cover a range of activities, tailored to suit the needs of participants. Topics can include: plant identification, seed collection & areas to collect from, collection calendars, direct seeding and revegetation principles. Sustainable Grazing and Pasture Cropping Workshops (Expressions of Interest Close Friday 6 February 2015)
Graeme Hand (Stipa Native Grasses Association) and Colin Seis (Pasture Cropping Australia) will be conducting workshops on low-input pasture management in early March. The content of each workshop will be tailored to suit attendee interests, and will focus on improving both biodiversity and farm/business health. If you are interested in pasture management and weed control that doesn't depend on expensive chemical sprays and constant fertiliser inputs, this workshop is for you.
The Fungi: An Introduction to a Curious Kingdom (Expressions of Interest Close Friday 6 February 2015)
Alison Pouliot will be conducting workshops to introduce participants to the diversity, ecology and curiosities of the fungi kingdom. Topics covered will include: the major fungal groups, the basics of fungus identification, fungal ecology, the natural and cultural history of fungi, and the importance of fungal conservation. Fungal specimens from the local area will be displayed, discussed and examined during the workshop. If you've ever seen a funky fungus and wondered what it was called, and why it was growing where it was, this workshop will give you the keys to finding out.
