3.10. Water

The demand for town water has reduced the flows (which are natural variable) of the Murrumbidgee River. Additional demands are placed upon the river by agriculture. The major water storages affecting the area are Burrinjuck Dam on the Murrumbidgee River and Blowering Dam on the Tumut River. Berembed Weir also alters flow by directing water to the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. Flows from streams are altered by structures like Bethungra Dam.
