iii) Voluntary Code of Practice for Commercial Firewood Suppliers

Merchants who sign up to the code agree to comply with the following guidelines.
• Source their wood from cutters and landowners who can show they have collected the wood legally
• Source firewood that has been collected through ecologically sustainable practices
• Provide customers with information about species and source of the firewood they buy
• To reduce smoke, educate consumers about correct firewood storage and burning practices
• To reduce smoke, only supply seasoned wood where practical
• Preferably source wood from plantation and sustainably managed native forest and waste wood
