11.1.2.Weed sources
Weeds and their seeds can arrive at your property in many ways – with stock feed, with stock and on vehicles. Water, wind and garden plants are other sources of weed material, from which weeds will take advantage of poor land management such as overgrazing and colonise areas where ground is bare.
Other more indirect causes of weed infestations include the deliberate introduction of weeds for other purposes such as willows for bank stabilisation, herbicide resistance due to over-reliance on one or several chemicals, the cost of control methods being prohibitive or simply the land managers’ lack of awareness and inability to identify weeds.
