A Century of Irrigation on Display

Printer-friendly version

The Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area is celebrating its centenary anniversary in 2012.

A photographic history of the irrigation area is currently on display at Leeton Visitor's Information Centre.

Historical photographs, depicting the construction of the MIA’s channel system, and the beginnings of local farms and communities, will provide a snapshot of life in the region a century ago. The photographs show the pioneering spirit and determination which enabled the MIA to become one of Australia’s most valuable food production areas. The exhibition is one of the first celebrations of the MIA Centenary of Irrigation and will form a travelling display, to be shown at various locations in Griffith, Leeton and Narrandera.
